First and foremost, we hope that you are all well, staying safe and maintaining a level of sanity and good cheer through this challenging time.  We are joined with the rest of the world in facing some tough times ahead.  The global effect of COVID-19 is unprecedented and it is imperative that our business community comes together to provide resources and enforce strategies to protect and support our workers and our community in the best possible way while continuing operations.

The Manly Business Chamber is working proactively with the Northern Beaches Council, as well as our NSW and Federal Government Members, to support our business community.  Today, I am meeting with Michael Regan, Mayor of the Northern Beaches Council as well as Ray Brownlee, Council CEO and representatives of our other local Chambers on the beaches, to put forward recommendations for how local government can assist businesses in Manly.

These recommendations included:

  • Waiving Outdoor Dining Fees
  • Deferring Council rates for small owner/operators
  • Introduce temporary licensing for restaurants to operate take-away
  • Creating business grants for local businesses
  • Co-ordinated communications platform for updates pertaining to business
  • Dedicated resource for supporting affected businesses with accessing stimulus package
  • Marketing promotion to encourage people to:
    • Buy local
    • Support small business through measures such as buying gift cards online, writing reviews etc

While the situation globally remains fluid and the measures being implemented closer to home evolve day by day, it’s important that the health and safety of our community remains a key focus.  As with most of you, we are also implementing the most prudent measures internally and externally to ensure the safety of our members and staff. Unfortunately, this meant cancelling last week's Kombi Rally and our March events.  We will continue to monitor the unfolding situation day-by-day and will notify you of any changes.

This is vital to continue Manly’s economic growth and we are confident that an interchangeable business permit between nominated cars will allow the required flexibility.

Thank you for considering this request and we look forward to developing a scheme that considers all of Manly’s stakeholders.

Kind regards,
