Here we address a few questions in regards to Manly Business Chamber and Northern Beaches Council.
Are you the same as Northern Beaches Council?
No, we are separate. Whilst the Chamber often partners with Council on projects, grant submissions or activations, we represent local businesses owners and advocate issues on their behalf.
Is the Manly Business Chamber the same as Chamber of Commerce?
No, but yes! The Manly Chamber of Commerce was established in 1936 then re-launched in 1990, and more recently rebranded as Manly Business Chamber. As a non-profit organisation, it is funded by annual membership fees with all profits invested back into local projects.
Are there other Chambers on the Northern Beaches?
Yes there are a number of Chambers on the Beaches all working to promote local businesses.
Are there geographical restrictions?
Chambers and membership are not restricted by location, the Manly Business Chamber welcomes members from Ryde and Central Coast to Pittwater and Castle Hill, plus everywhere in-between! Recently the opportunity for our members outside Manly LGA to collaborate has seen sub-committees for Brookvale and Freshwater develop, focusing on issues and events specific to these areas.
Is the Chamber Executive Committee paid?
No, we are all volunteers. At a minimum committing to a monthly Exec Committee Meeting each month, plus networking events where possible. Based on skillset the Execs sit on various sub-committees or Council working groups to grow the Manly economy.
What do you get from being on the committee?
Professional development, working with committed local business people, expanding their skill set, developing local connections, utilising your skills for the betterment of the community – and it’s great to be part of a local business community – our Execs have met some amazing people!
Why would I become a member of the Chamber? What benefits do I get?
